Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
The short version: I use your information to photograph your wedding and run my business, and for nothing else. I don't sell it. The longer version is below.
WHO I AM
I'm Benji North, a wedding photographer and videographer trading as Benji North Photography. I'm the "data controller" for the information in this policy. That means I decide how it's used, and I'm responsible for looking after it.
Email: benji@benjinorth.com

WHAT I COLLECT
When you enquire or book:
-
names for you and your partner
-
email address, phone number and postal address
-
your wedding date, venue and plans for the day
-
anything you tell me in messages or questionnaires
-
payment records, such as bank transfer references and amounts (I don't collect or store card details)
On the wedding day: photographs and video of you, your guests and anyone else at the wedding.
When you visit my website: your IP address, browser and device type, which pages you look at and for how long. This is collected through cookies and analytics tools.
HOW I USE IT, AND WHY I'M ALLOWED TO
UK data protection law requires a lawful reason for each use. Here are mine:
-
To reply to your enquiry, prepare a quote, and deliver what you've booked. Lawful basis: contract (or steps towards one).
-
To keep financial and tax records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
-
To photograph guests, and share a selection of images on my website, social media and portfolio, as set out in my Terms & Conditions. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (showing my work to future couples), balanced against your privacy.
-
To send occasional updates or promotional emails. Lawful basis: your consent (you can unsubscribe at any time).
-
To use analytics cookies on my website. Lawful basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner.
A NOTE FOR WEDDING GUESTS
You didn't sign a contract with me, but you're in the photos, so this part is for you. If you'd prefer that an image of you isn't used on my website or social media, email me and I'll take it down. I never use images in a way that's derogatory or harmful to anyone in them.
WHO I SHARE IT WITH
I use a small number of trusted providers to run my business. They handle data on my behalf and only for the purposes set out here:
-
Website hosting: Wix
-
Online galleries: Pic-Time
-
Email and client management: Gmail and Studio Ninja
-
Film processing: Analogue Wonderland (only if film is part of your package)
-
Album printing: Pic-Time and their print partner (only if you order an album)
-
Second shooters or associate photographers: when booked, and bound to the same standards
-
Editing software: see the next section
-
Social media platforms: when I post images for promotion
-
I'll also share information if the law requires me to.
EDITING SOFTWARE AND AI
Some of the software I use has AI-assisted features, for things like sorting images, colour correction, noise reduction and masking. The main tools I use are Adobe Creative Cloud apps: Lightroom Classic, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Most of these features run on my own computer.
The exception is Adobe's generative remove tool, which I use to take distracting objects out of the background. When I use it, that image is processed on Adobe's servers. Adobe states that it doesn't use this content to train its AI models.
I never pass your images to anyone for AI training, and I don't use generative AI to add people or to change moments or expressions.
When I post images to Instagram, Facebook or other platforms, those platforms handle them under their own terms, which can include AI-related uses. That's outside my control, and it's one of the reasons anyone can ask me to remove an image.
DATA STORED OUTSIDE THE UK
Some of my providers store data outside the UK, often in the US. When that happens, I rely on the protections the law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK-US data bridge, or approved contract terms.
HOW LONG I KEEP IT
-
Enquiries that don't become bookings: 12 months.
-
Contracts, invoices and payment records: six years after the end of the relevant tax year, as required for tax and legal purposes.
-
Client galleries: online for six months after delivery. I also keep an archive of final images indefinitely, so I can help if you ever lose your copies, though, as my Terms & Conditions explain, long-term storage isn't guaranteed.
-
Images used in my portfolio or promotion: for as long as they're in use, or until you ask me to remove them.
-
Marketing email list: until you unsubscribe.
YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:

ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
-
ask me to correct anything that's wrong
-
ask me to delete your information
-
ask me to limit how I use it
-
object to how I use it, including the use of your images for promotion
-
ask me to send your information to you, or to someone else, in a usable format
